Job summary
We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Manager to join our team at University Hospitals Plymouth. This is a maternity leave cover contract for 12-months and will be based between Derriford Hospital and Mount Gould Hospital.
Main duties of the job
As a Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership to the Marie Curie team within the University Hospitals Plymouth. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring high-quality end of life care is delivered in the community, supporting patients to remain in their place of choice. You will oversee service development, workforce planning, and quality assurance, while also managing safeguarding investigations and clinical incidents.

Hours: 30 hours per week
Contract: 12 months fixed term (maternity cover). Secondments available.
Salary: £47,810 - £54,710 per annum (pro rata), in line with NHS Agenda for Change (AFC). Plus, full range of Marie Curie benefits, including enhancements for out of hours working.
Location: University Hospitals Plymouth (on-site)
As a Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership to a defined team within the Marie Curie Hospital Nursing Service. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality end of life care within an acute or inpatient setting, supporting patients and their families through complex end-of-life journeys.
You will oversee service development, workforce planning, and quality assurance within the hospital environment. This senior leadership position offers significant scope for professional development and influence.
You'll work closely with hospital leadership teams, specialist consultants, discharge coordinators, and other key stakeholders to shape inpatient services and identify opportunities for innovation and growth. We're seeking someone who is passionate about advancing hospital-based end of life care and committed to continuous improvement within a forward-thinking charity.

- Relevant Nursing Degree
- Recent experience in health setting and management of nursing/ clinical teams
- Experience caring for patients with end of life care needs (hospice/hospital/community)
- Up to date knowledge of current end of life care issues
- Able to plan, delegate, schedule and prioritise own workload and that of others, within a changing environment
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, e.g. negotiating, persuasion and coaching
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
Willingness to travel & occasionally make overnight stays
